Happy New Year 2008

Allow me to be the best that I can be
To live with my heart open
To love unconditionally
To be compassionate
To be kind to all
To be grateful
To be truthful
To give freely
To be sincere
To be honest
To act
Lee-ann
With Christmas behind us and the New Year in front of us I wonder if we can find the courage to keep the love and the compassion of the Christmas spirit ongoing.
Just imagine the magnitude of the changes we’d see in our world if everyone continued in this same beautiful spirit of year round. I firmly believe it could change our world!

WINTER NEWSLETTER
Y
ou might be surprised to find out that your New Year’s resolution to quit this or that, lose weight or become a better person might become your reality much faster and easier when you take the focus off yourself and put more energy into creating more goodness for all of mankind.
Serve the needs of others, and all your own needs will be fulfilled.
Through selfless action, fulfillment is attained.
Tao Te Ching ( Verse 7)
Our greatest fulfillments come not in what we attain but what we give. Absolutely it is paramount to know what it is that we each desire, to experience it and to have all of these things as long as we keep our perspective and balance by giving back with equal amounts. Some people may question this statement and yet when many people are faced with terminal illness, experience the sudden loss of a loved one or they loose everything they quickly become more mindful of what it really means to live in balance. They often comment that living excessively has lost its appeal and just being alive with only the basics, surrounded by the people they love is far more important than living in excess.
If you are living excessively and out of balance here are some ideas of what that imbalance may look like.
- Are you attached to the things you own? (Yes even Grandma’s dresser that you inherited and love SO MUCH!)
- Do you feel you would not be the same person without your things, home or cars?
- Is the focus in your life more on working than living?
- Are you more apt to cancel a social engagement than a business meeting?
- Are you giving back equal amounts to what you are receiving in your life?
- Are you still miserable or unhappy or unfulfilled even though you have lots of stuff?
- Could you contribute to society with a talent, time or or treasure but choose not to?
- Do you keep looking for other people or situations to meet and fulfill your emptiness?
- Do you spend more time focused on what you don’t have instead of being truly grateful for what you do have?
- Do you boast about your fat bank accounts but then refuse to help your local area charities or food banks?
- Do you contribute back to this world by physically going out and helping others or do you always use money as your contribution? (There is nothing like stocking the shelves at the food bank or serving food at the Mustard Seed to give you a greater perspective on the imbalances many people experience daily in this world.)
Do you really want to help make a difference in this world?
I know there are many of you who are already out there doing things to make this a better world and GOOD FOR YOU! For those of you who would like to but you haven’t quite found your place to do this, please keeping searching. You will find it.
For those of you who don’t think you have time – think again.
Here are 20 simple ways you can be proactive in creating a better world:
- 1) Act when your own intuition reveals an opportunity for you to help someone.
- 2) Share your talents and offer to teach someone for FREE once a week for 3 to 6 months.
- 3) Take a plate of food to someone you know lives alone and would really appreciate a home cooked meal.
- 4) Organize a food drive in your area for a food bank or think bigger and organize a food drive in your workplace to replenish the bare shelves at the food shelters.
- 5) Buy or give someone a car because you know they really need it or a yearly bus pass whatever happens to fits your budget.
- 6) Teach your children the art of compassion by including and involving them with your acts of kindness – kids are naturally generous.
- 7) Give away what you are not using to those who could use it – how many sweaters or pairs of pants do your really need?
- 8) Recycle as much as you can and please STOP using plastic bags. Recycle bags are readily available so why are you still using the plastic environmentally unfriendly bags?
- 9) Organize a group of people to sing or story tell at nursing homes, hospitals and recovery homes once a week for 1 hr.
- 10) If you work in a corporate setting set up a rotation of volunteers who are willing to give up one lunch hour once a month so you can send out a team of volunteers to fulfill a need in your community.
- 11) If you are the CEO of a corporation ask your investors and the staff receiving bonuses if they would consider giving up a percentage of their take to support a worthy cause such as education, housing, food, community gardens or overseas projects like the Malawi Project (a project started by one very enthusiastic young Calgarian who could really use your support and help with this project ) Visit www.kidsworldmalawi.com)
- 12) Call someone you know who is struggling and offer your support in whatever capacity you can such as; doing errands, offering money, cooking meals or just being there.
- 13) When you’ve been given excellent service by someone who just served you take the time to really acknowledge and compliment that person – they really do deserve and appreciate it.
- 14) When you find someone struggling to learn a new job – offer them kind words and encouragement instead of your impatience and glares. Your kindness is an invaluable gift that may help them to accelerate!
- 15) Give someone a gift when they might least expect it and tell them it’s for them just because of who they are and for no other reason.
- 16) Let someone into the traffic line EVERYDAY!
- 17) Smile at as many people as you can everyday (those you know and those you don’t)
- 18) Call someone you need to apologize to and be sincere.
- 19) Do one thing for another person each week out of the kindness of your heart and better yet try to do it anonymously.
- 20) Invite yourself into the world of goodness, kindness and continue the Christmas spirit by starting each day with this statement.
EVERY DAY I am open to helping others
When we are all doing our little bits and truly being more compassionate 365 days of the year I believe the need for food banks and homeless shelters will decrease. It’s no secret when people know that they are cared for and loved by others incredible miracles happen.
If 250,000 people in Alberta give two hours of time each week towards a better world that’s 500,000 hours of kindness going out every week in Alberta and 1.8 billion hours of kindness going on every year! Let’s do it and surpass it because we can!
A non-doer is very often a critic-that is, someone who sits back and
watches doers,
and then waxes philosophically about how the doers are doing.
It's easy to be a critic,
but being a doer requires effort, risk, and change.
Dr. Wayne Dyer
Let’s ALL take action towards making this a truly better world and stop assuming this is a job for someone else!
Let us be truly grateful everyday for life, our surroundings and our loved onesLet us enthusiastically hug at least three people everyday because we want to
Let us carefully listen to our inner voices and do what we are being asked to do
Let us eagerly lend a helping hand everyday instead of just when it suites us
Let us really decide to be kind to everyone not just a select few
Let us joyfully bless our world and everyone in it everyday
Let us readily offer words of encouragement everyday
Let us honestly do all of this without any expectation
Let us remember it’s the little bits collectively, that make the whole
